Why would I need a medication dispenser and not a home medical alarm?
Senior medical alert systems provide different levels of benefit. A pill reminder or medication alert system can do two things; deliver the right dose at the right time AND supervise the dispenser to insure that the correct dose IS removed at the correct time.

What are the value of medication dispensers?
If you don’t follow your doctor’s advice and take medications as prescribed, you are likely not receiving the full benefit of your medication. Many people who don’t take their medication regularly have difficulty remembering what to take and when to take it. But memory is only one component of medication non-compliance. Confusion is also a problem. Maybe you do remember to take meds at 8:00am, but which ones?
Maybe it’s a cloudy, overcast day and you wake up from a mid-day nap. Is it morning or night? Did you take your meds earlier or not? These are the kind of confusion issues that a medication dispenser can resolve.

Will a dispenser hold all of my medications?
Most medication dispensers are designed to hold dry meds (tablets, capsules, caplets, pills). Medication in other forms (eye drops, inhalers, patches, injections, etc) will not be compatible with a medication dispenser. In these cases, a reminder system like the SimpleMed or the CareLink 8100 may be your best choice.

What if I need a dose ahead of the scheduled time?
Every dispenser has unique features. The SimpleMed dispenser has the best early-dosing feature. Just remove the dose ahead of time with the knowledge of your primary caregiver. When s/he receives the warning email/text message, they can simply disregard it.

I am hard of hearing. What if I don’t remember to take my medications at the right time?
All of our dispensers have visual and audible alerts designed to let you know when it is your dosage time. Additionally, MedReady can be supervised by CareLink to allow for real-time intervention by our Support Center operators. They can speak to you in the home and call caregivers if needed.
